I am looking for a 35 foot plus houseboat with an engine that runs at least 2 miles per the gallon. I will post more about the type of boat I want as I first see if this gets posted. Thanks for your interest.

The easiest hulls to propel and therefore the most fuel efficient are long and narrow, which doesn't work for a houseboat unless you have two of them. Are you considering a catamaran?

2 mpg is easy , if you go slow enough , 35 ft of pontoon would allow 6mph as a very ecomomical speed even with a gas outboard.

Want faster and it becomes a pr$cy battle to get light weight , a diesel matched to the performance and complex hull design.

2 mpg at 6mph is 3gph consumption so you are looking at something in the 30-40hp range.

Thank you for the welcome but my daughter posted the question to see if she had successfully got me registered. Since I am always talking about finding a L R cruiser I can afford to run she thought of that related question."Good daughter".
Perhaps I should take this to a different location but I will spill it here anyway and may be led to the proper place for it by some of you experts.
I became interested in the SUMMER KYLE designed by Mr Dave Gerr. i have not been able to get any feed back from him other than for $1800 he will send plans. Does any one know where I may be able to find any study info on that type tunnel hull cruiser?

from what I have seen almost any single diesel powered craft of less than 40' and 30,000# will get over 2 nmpg if you stay well within displacement speed (1.34 x sq root of waterline or ~7 kts). Some twins will do it, as well, but there are more losses from heat and drag. Also, on a vessel with engines sized for planing, they tend to lower specific fuel consumption at low, barely off idle power settings unless electronically controlled. JeemboNC
